I think the technic used is needle binding, also known under several differened language names.

I might be mistaken, because I only saw the pictures and could not read the text.
According the book I have on it it used to be used in the scandinavian countries till the 1960’s, and therefor the international names tend to be in the languages of those countries.

If you we refering to underarmor clothing, you might find more knowledge on the slingers forum.

On second thought, it may not be needle binding, no needle involved. It seems a kind of crochet done by using the fingers instead of a hook.
If it is, I never heard about it being used for garments.
I can not (yet) find links online to it, but I am sure there are more internet pages on it.

Thank You Willeke for both, I’ll try to post this in slingers forum too…

I’m also interested in different ways of knotting such body.
Monkey chain is simple and easy to make but leaves big gaps and I’ve heard that there are other methods for making it densier.

Felting, if you use wool that is.
Make the thing much bigger than it needs to become, and rub it with warm water and soap.
It will shrink 5 to 50 % in size depening on the kind of wool, how much you work it and what structure it is made in.
Google felt or felting for more info.
