Tied as per the Water Bowline.
Very simple to tie, and to adjust the tail lengths.
Would it be a better method than the standard sheet bend?

It certainly could be used. I think the Water Bowline tends to get more attention because by having more parts of the line loaded, it does a better job of keeping that clove hitch structure tight.
For those trying to picture it, just imagine that the left side leg of the loop shown in the link below is the free end of the rope while the right side leg of the loop is another standing part:
