Which book to get?

I am going to try to start doing some decorative knot tying, some around pole stuff, some other stuff, so I was just wondering what would be the best book for me to get? I have heard allot about Ashley’s book of knots, would that be a good choice? I have some experience with knots, I was a boy scout, and I just like tying knots, so I play with rope allot. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The book I’d recommend is the Ashley Book of Knots.

Evan,

Based on what you have said about yourself and your desired knotting, I would highly recommend that you get Cyrus L. Day’s “Knotting and Splicing” - he does a great job of explaining decorative knots from the outset and has really clear photographs. Also, his book costs a whole lot less than Ashley (and Ashley can be a bit intimidating at first). You might also try Hervey Garrett Smith’s “The Marlinespike Sailor”, which has superb illustrations for just when your knotting seems like you need a new direction, he is right there with the right drawing.

Good luck and have fun! ;D
