Whipping (serving)

G’day all,
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I have just started a little fancy work making boats’ painters (eye splicing, spanish braids, pointing, coxcombing etc.) after not having done any rope work for 45 years. The painter is served at various points and I have used sailmakers whipping, french whipping, West Country whipping and Moku whipping.
I am trying to find instructions on other whipping patterns, in particular St Marys whipping. I have seen it referred to a couple of times, but cannot find even a description of the method or the finished result, let alone any pictures. I believe it was around in the 19th century, but may be older.
Is there any book or magazine out there (its the 21st century - website perhaps) that can help me?
Or can other members help me? I can usually work how to do things from written instructions or decriptions or fudge a reasonable copy from detailed pictures.
Strangely enough, ropework is like riding a bicycle. after so long away from it I still know how its done, but screw up regularly from lack of practice.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Cemtech,

Here is a link to a web-site that includes St Mary’s Hitching - http://dickeyfamilyresearch.com/knot_pics/Hitch_1.htm hope it helps!
