JD has been granted Honorary Membership of the Guild for a period of 3 years in recognition of his contribution to knotting not least the production of the videos which were included with KM this year so his claim is quite justified.
Thanks for the ‘Heads Up’ - I have pushed in the past for the Guild to make better use of the ‘Formal Recognition’ tool in order to promote the Guild as The knotting body, so it is good to see that the ‘New Brooms’ are making valuable headway on many fronts - well done. This guy certainly has been prolific in his production of his videos and their quality is excellent.
Tell me though - was this recognition formally publicised anywhere (like in the KM Newsletter for example) and I have missed it, or was it kept quiet for some reason? I would have thought for it to have full value for the Guild, formal recognitions should be proclaimed loud and long, don’t you agree?
Also, is Honorary Membership going to be the only way that the Guild acknowledges contribution to knotting, and does this preclude fully paid up members from being recognised?
And what about awarding the accolade of Master Knotter of the IGKT or simply Mk IGKT, with a listing on the website of those awarded the recognition and why - we might posthumously award the very first such Mk IGKT to our very own Clifford Ashley for ABoK, then again, perhaps Ashley should be awarded the lone position of Fellow of the IGKT, leaving Mk IGKT and Honorary Membership as accolades for lesser mortals in our field.
PS With apologies to JD for hijacking his blatant advertisement for his new website and books.
It was a great honor to have received it. I didn’t mention it to the members
(here on the forum) on account i didn’t not want to come off wrong (i.e. as
bragging). When I submitted the content information to my website creator,
she thought the recognition merited mentioning.
I could provide a link to the letter on the site, but I thought that would be to
much.
What are your thoughts?
JD ~ TIAT
p.s. No worries regarding the discussion. Its more important to clear this point.
p.p.s. I was a fully paid member prior to receiving the letter. And my current
(paid) membership does not expire until March 2011.
Formatted and worded properly, I don’t think it would be bragging at all. It adds legitimacy to the claim, and it helps in a way to advertise the IGKT. Not only in showing your membership, but also in the guild’s willingness to recognize those that make significant contributions to the community.
Well done James, you deserve it for the work you have put in, I am equally glad that the Guild is now issuing such well deserved accolades.
I agree, it would have been braggardly to have shouted this about yourself, that is why I believe the Guild should make the running in publicising accolades such as this, and others they will hopefully award in the future.
The Guild website is the place to list all distinctions and accolades, and the KM is perhaps the place to announce them.
Website shows pictures for two knots (Turtle Knot and Cheshire Cat) that don’t have videos and don’t appear in your Table of Contents. Can we happily and patiently assume your doing videos for these soon?
