The ABOK Index lists every numbered figure in The Ashley Book of Knots. Many figures have no name printed in the book, so the index gives them a descriptive label marked with †. A † label is our description, not Ashley's name.
This topic covers Chapter 6: Multi-Strand Stopper or Terminal Knots (Part 5, post #6). There are 13 † entries in it. If you know a recognised name for any of them (from Ashley elsewhere in the book, another knot book, or established trade or common usage), please share it. Names for terms, rope situations and equipment are welcome too, but knots come first.
How to reply
- One reply per name.
- Use exactly this format:
#<ABOK number> – <name> – <source, optional>
Example:#76 – <proposed name> – <book, author, page> - Check the existing replies first. If someone has already given the same name,
their post instead of repeating it. If you disagree, reply to that post with your source. - Approved names will be added to the index. The † will then be removed or the source noted.
