Help identifying this rope.

This rope was found in an old chest and the local museum could not identify its use so they naturally asked me. The length is 2,5 meters and one end is pointed, the other end has canvas covered strands tied to a Rose Knot (Double Wall + single crown. Chafe guard in leather with pinked washer.
My guess would be a yoke rope but they haven´t been very common over here.
Anyone with more educated guess?

Could it be a simple whip?

this is great, i had no idea,
way handy rope/ tool.
i had thought it was for holding on to the end of a rope with your foot (but - whyy?)! but i am a land lubber and it shows

A yoke rope makes sense, easy to thread thru a hole and away you go. I use that quit often moving pallets around deck, of course it is whatever rope or sling that is nearest.

Or as suggested in the linked FB post a manrope, attached to the a ships side then embarking or disembarking a ship with little freeboard no ladder need just a couple of ropes to hold on to.

My quick on-line check --with ME doing the looking–
is finding a small consensus (in dictionaries, e.g.) for
“a side rope (as to a ship’s gangway or ladder) used as a handrail”

Some curiosities arise :: two sources say that the man-rope
knot should NOT be used qua stopper (but then what’s it do?),
and your image suggests --as does an Ashley note-- that the
manrope-knot’d end will see wear/loading!?
