IGKT Half-Yearly Meeting, 3rd-5th October 2025, Piece Hall, Halifax

Venue: Caygill Rooms, The Piece Hall, Blackledge, Halifax HX1 1RE, UK

Friday 3rd October

The Caygill Rooms are on the first floor (lift & stairs access) and will be available from 09:30 for setting up exhibition tables etc.

Vehicle entry to the Piece Hall is in the road called Blackledge, on the south side of the Hall. See accompanying map.

There is space for ropewalks in the entranceway to the rooms and plenty of space outside, given good weather.

11:00 to 13:00 – Talks and presentations

There is also a café on the ground floor, below the Caygill Rooms, for refreshments during the day and many other places in and around the lower side of the Hall, surprisingly, the west side of the Hall.

14:00 – 16:00 – The Calderdale Industrial Museum adjoins the Piece Hall and we have arranged a special visit to this excellent guide to the important woollen spinning and weaving industries that made this part of Yorkshire very wealthy during the 150 years from 1800 – 1950. The cost for this visit is £10.

Evening social meeting – many suitable venues in the Westgate Arcade.

Saturday 4th October

10:00 – 16:00 – Exhibitions open to the public

15:30 – Raffle (please bring a prize or two)

19:00 for 19:30 – Dinner, buffet supper, at a local Thai restaurant (Pajaree’s) renowned for super food, and about ten minutes’ walk from the Hall. Address: 57 Broad Street, Halifax, HX1 1YA.

Sunday 5th October

10:00 – 13:00 – Exhibitions open to the public. Takedown follows.

Vehicles can use the south entrance, as on Friday.

15:00 – Suggested visit: the nearby (1.5 miles) Shibden Hall.
This wonderful house museum has a terrific collection of important furniture from 16th century onwards.

It was the setting for the BBC series about one of its 19th century owners, Ann Lister, Gentleman Jack.

The visit costs: Adults £10, Over 65s £7.50, and this can be done at leisure.

It would be sensible to book individually in advance, and this can be done here. As this is written (Aug 12th) there are 50 tickets available at each of the three times.

Although I’ve been a member of the Guild for around 15 years, this was my first physical IGKT meeting!

I attended the IGKT Half-Yearly meeting to demonstrate the new IGKT forum (this forum) to the attendees and to present/pitch some ideas for how we develop the forum over time to build the visibility of the Guild, share knotting knowledge with the world, and grow the membership.
