Some Turks Head grids

I have posted a few Turks Head grids here for those who are interested.

This complex Turks Head was used as a covering for a bell rope.

This is a simple cruciform Turks Head. I typically finish it with a loop coming out of the top for a wall hanging.

Cross.pdf (95 KB)

The cross with stand is the same knot as the cross, but with an added Turks Head at the bottom which forms a nice stand.

The Pear Shaped Turks Head adds a four bight extension on a 56 panel globe knot to make a nice place to run a line out of the knot when it is used as a pull. I have this knot hanging from a ceiling fan switch.

These are different combinations of Turks Heads that form a pear shaped knot. Many combinations are possible.

The wine glass grid is a combination of three different Turks Heads tied with a single line. There are many different combinations of Turks Head knots that can be combined to form a knot like this.

Nice work Pat! Thank you for sharing all this.

You’re welcome SS369! I originally created these grids as a .doc form which was too big to post on this forum. I was finally able to PDF the grids, and I still have a few that don’t meet the 100KB limit that I have to do more work on.

Pat

Really cool. Thx for sharing! Since the KNWW is defunct could we persuade you to post example pics of the finished knots here too? 8)

At 100KB limit, the photos won’t have much detail. The attached photos is the bell rope that I used the complex Turks Head grid to tie the bottom knot.

This is a picture of the Turks Head Cross, and several other crosses tied in small line. With me in the photo is Roy Chapman, who supplied the line to tie the large cross.

These are some round mats. These are only a few of the possible combinations of bights and turns that will form a single line knot. I like to tie these in 1/4 cotton and use them as coasters.

This is a paper jig to make a sailors bracelet. It uses a hole punch to prepare the jig, and then the paper is ripped off the knot.
