Update! and Call for Moderators, Archivists, and IGKT Forum Champions!

Hi knotters!

I hope you are all enjoying the Discourse forum, it seems the posts are starting to pick up on this forum, and hopefully we will see a steady resurgence in its use. Some updates are below:

Joomla forum import

I did a manual post-migration sweep through the IGKT Forum ‘Joomla’ forum (this was the ‘new’ forum a few years ago but it never really caught on) but I didn’t have the time to copy over everything, so if your posts their have not appeared in this forum then please do let me know. I can help ‘reconstruct’ the threads with all the correct users attributed to the correct posts.

I’ve now deleted the temporary ‘Joomla Forum Import’ category, but any posts in it have been moved to the same category they had originally been posted in on the Joomla forum.

SMF2 forum import

The automated forum import of the forum.igkt.net SMF2 forum was completed a few weeks back, but some posts might have happened in between the final database export I was given, and the SMF2 forum being put into maintenance (read only) mode. So again if there are threads you want to be brought over to this forum I can help with doing that, let me know.

Image sizes and other files

You will be pleased to know that this forum doesn’t have any tight restrictions on image size, so most images will just work, and they display way more nicely than in the SMF2 forum. Small videos can also be uploaded directly.

For larger videos, links to YouTube and similar sites will display with an inline viewer right in the forum.

PDFs and other files formats can be uploaded. If you get an error message saying ‘This file format is not permitted’ but you think it should be, then just let me know - if it’s a reasonable request then we can allow that file format, or I can upload it on a one-off basis. The reason for restrictions is purely about security and safety of members.

Moderators, archivists and champions!

As with any forum we will need a small group of engaged users to help us maintain the site. Most of the forums I run don’t have much ‘bad behaviour’ that needs to be moderated, in the main moderators and the ‘site team’ are there to help optimise the quality of posts - formatting, fixing, and tidying. If you are interested in helping out then let me know either as a reply here or in a PM. This ‘site team’ will also help to make decisions about new features we can add to the forum, look and feel, and ongoing evolution of the platform.

I am willing to help if you need my help ! :slightly_smiling_face:

Charles.

There seems to be missing one last reply with the accompanying images, as well as the attached images of replies 107, 108 at the end of the thread “Yet another midline eyeknot”
Since this a dynamic thread, is it possible to intergrate them here in this forum, so as to be able to continue my posts from that certain point?
Thank you in advance.

Thanks @kost_greg - I have repaired the thread by inserting the missing reply in chronological order.

Let me know if there’s anything not quite right with it. I am going to write a little guide for moderators about how to retrieve missing replies and content.

I’m sorry, perhaps i was not so clear in my previous reply,
The reply that you have quoted above (105) and simultaneously have transfered here, was not problematic, it preexisted in the first place, and now it appears twice so i guess you can delete your insertion.

I’ll try to quote the problematic replies.

  1. [quote=“tsik_lestat, post:108, topic:7128”]
    1059 continued …

The symmetrical status of Abok#1059, enables to continue its core analysis one more step and transition from inline level, to the corresponding end of line profiles for all three, previous structures.

From there on, only eye manipulation maneuvering has to be employed, in order to continue the TIB exploration and all its derivatives, which i assure you are too many.

In this reply only the images are missing.

    1059 continued …

There are two ways to enhance Abok’s#1059 core stability. Both ways, or even a combination of them, require increasing the complexity by one order, getting second order knots which is generally an acceptable level.

  1. Add another overhand by reeving the eye from the non-overhand (nipping loop ) side of the knot

In this reply only the images are missing also.

3. There is one last reply at the end of the thread with attached images also, that has not been intergrated at all, following right after the previous two quoted replies.*

Hopefully, that was a bit more well-defined than my previous reply.

Hence, the problem is restricted in the consecutive three last replies of the thread.

it seems that the edit function has disappeared and is no longer available either for posts coming from the old forum or for those made here in this new forum.

i was willing to do my own repairs for missing images or replies, if the posts from the old forum were editable.

Am i missing something here?

It is probably because they are old posts, but I have now changed the site settings so users are able to edit their own posts no matter how old the posts are. Hopefully that should fix it. Refresh the page to pull the new settings.
